Hiawassee, Georgia (July 11, 2023) – According to Georgia troopers, a 63-year-old man was killed, and five others were seriously injured when a dump truck lost control on a curve and collided with an oncoming vehicle.
According to Georgia State Patrol, it happened just before 1 p.m. on Friday, July 7, on State Route 17 in Hiawassee.
Troopers said that the dump truck was heading north and preparing to round a curve when it “experienced a possible mechanical issue” and veered into the southbound lanes.
The 2008 GMC Sierra was heading home from a water park when it was hit head-on.
According to troopers, the out-of-control dump truck pushed the SUV onto the highway’s shoulder before colliding with another vehicle.
The dump truck continued off the road and down an embankment, landing upside down.
The driver of the GMC died at the scene.
One of the passengers was airlifted to a hospital in Gainesville, while his son and cousin were hospitalized at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.
The others, including the dump truck driver, were taken to the hospital with “serious to critical injuries,” according to troopers.
I met with Harry Brown personally and he sat with me for 20 minutes at our initial consultation to explain everything. He even called after my surgery to see how I was doing. I met with him several more times after that and was kept informed about my case throughout. I highly recommend Harry Brown as an attorney.
