Atlanta, GA – Car Went Off Overpass During Accident
Atlanta, GA (December 29, 2022) – Atlanta police are investigating an accident that may have caused a vehicle to fall off of an Interstate 20 overpass on Thursday, December 29.
Following the crash, emergency crews closed most westbound lanes of Interstate 20 and a portion of Anderson Avenue below the overpass.
Atlanta police confirmed that officers were responding to a crash in the area, but did not provide many details.
A witness claimed to have seen a car drive off the edge of the overpass, but the claim has not been verified by investigators.
Crews were also working on Anderson Avenue and above on the overpass along I-20, according to images provided by GDOT.
A woman in handcuffs was escorted into a patrol car from a wrecked SUV on I-20, according to FOX 5. It was unclear whether the woman had been arrested in connection with the crash.
The number of cars involved, the extent of injuries, and the cause of the accident were all unknown at the time.
GDOT data indicated that the crash caused traffic to become backed up for miles, and the lanes of traffic did not open back up until 11 p.m.
